The Pichi-pichi, we make it round to save space in the steamer, picture taken from my blog

Pichi-pichi is made from grated cassava, mixed together with some flavors and steamed carefully, then covered with grated coconut to add more flavor.

Here are the ingredients:
  • 3 cups grated cassava
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Pandan Extract (Optional)
Procedure:
  1. Combine coconut milk and sugar and mix well. Make sure that all the sugar will be diluted in the water. Set aside.
  2. Combine with the grated cassava and other ingredients except the grated coconut. Mix Well.
  3. Make small circles from the mixture, usually it is flat oval shape. For us to save time and steamer space we make it into balls.
  4. Steam for 1 hour and allow to cool down.
  5. Roll the balls into grated coconut.
  6. Serve and enjoy.
A kilo of cassava or kamoteng kahoy is enough to feed more than 10 people. The hardest thing about cooking this recipe is that grating of cassava. It's grating a piece of wood.
